Starting with the smallest unit of speech, students are taught to manipulate the individual sounds in words through phonemic awareness. As we continue to build, this systematic and cumulative approach to reading instruction enables students to quickly become efficient and successful decoders (readers) and encoders (spellers).

Students remain actively engaged in the learning process as new concepts are introduced using activities and games that incorporate sight, sound, movement and touch. This approach to reading instruction is proven fun and very effective for all learners - including those diagnosed with dyslexia, auditory and visual processing disorders, and other learning differences.

Every Rhyme & Reason class session is limited to no more than five (students), who have each been assessed and found to be at a similar reading level as the other children in their given group. This not only allows each learner to receive the individualized attention needed, but it also allows the group to move at a steady and appropriate pace through the program.

Often, in the regular classroom setting, teachers do not have time to remain on a topic until all students reach mastery. Unfortunately, struggling students often find that the class moves on just as they are experiencing some success. Daily class meetings allow Rhyme & Reason tutors to not only teach to mastery, but also provide that constant review of previous concepts that struggling students so desperately need.
